Stay connected during summer break

The summer holidays are often connected to lots of time to hang out, enjoy your free time and maybe even go travelling.
At the same time, the long break can also be quite a drag, especially if you're used to seeing your friends at school every day. Many are on holiday or have other plans, so time together is often limited and we often have to plan around that.
But that doesn't mean you have to lose sight of each other! Here we show you how you can stay in touch during the summer holidays:

1. Take the first step
Sometimes it can happen that everyone assumes that the other person will get in touch. And in the end, nobody does and it stays quiet, even though you actually want to stay in touch.
Therefore: Don't be afraid to take the first step! Your friends will be happy about it!
2. Think about joint activities
Think together about different activities that you really want to do during the holidays and make a list, e.g. ‘picnic’, ‘bake muffins’, ‘watch a series’, ‘go to the lake’, ’eat ice cream’...
Maybe you also want to do a joint project, such as writing a song together or painting a picture together? Find inspiration for this on platforms such as Pinterest, YouTube or Instagram!
3. Plan (online) meetings with your friends
Unlike at school, you don't automatically see each other several times a week during the holidays. That's why it can help if meetings are arranged and planned so that the promise ‘we have to do something during the holidays’ doesn't get lost. More concrete would be, for example, ’let's go to the pool together this week - are you free on Tuesday?’. Or ‘a film night on Thursday’?
It's a little more difficult if you can't visit each other or are on holiday at different times. This is where voice and video chats can help, which you can use for an online game night, for example. Some streaming services offer the option of watching films or series together online. Why not give it a try and plan a game or film night with your friends?
Tip: Talk to each other before the summer holidays to make sure that everyone has time on the day and put the meeting in your calendar :)
4. Bring postcards or small souvenirs
If you are on vacation, send each other a nice postcard. You can also buy or collect small souvenirs (e.g. shells, sweets or bracelets). This shows that you are thinking of your friends . Later on, you can share cool experiences with each other.
5. Create a chat group
Use chat groups with your friends to keep each other up to date and tell about your holidays. You can take photos or videos of yourselves, which can be even more personal.
Tip: Make sure you pay attention to which app you use and who you want to share your personal moments with – sometimes less is more.
Of course, the tips don't just apply to friends from school, but also those from clubs, the neighbourhood or family.
